Mr. Mumford the Best in Music

Mr. Mumford was the best music teacher. In 1969 the choir performed Handel's Messiah in concert at CHS and at the Cherry Hill Mall. It was interesting to see the surprised look on the faces of the shoppers,(back then)when they realized that the Messiah was being performed by the CHS choir. He also gave us an appreciation of our own culture's music. His arrangement of many of the Spirituals that we performed, are still with me today. "Poor Man Lazarus" was one of my favorites. Mr. Mumford had an appreciation for all cultures and even taught us the Jewish chant, "Hear Oh Israel". Our classmate Gottleib use to cheer everytime he heard it. Mr. Mumford was the best!
