Passing of Priscilla Bates Camden High School Class of 1935.

Priscilla Bates BATES

Devoted First Lady of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Salem, NJ., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007 at the age of 90. Mrs. Bates, the daughter of the late Richard and Dolly (nee Perkins) Alston, was born in Camden, NJ where she had been an area resident all her life, graduating from Camden High School Class of 1935. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Salem and its former organist. Bates was member of the Interdenominational Ministers Wives and Widows Association and many other Church affiliated Ministries. As a teenager she began to play the piano and organ for various churches in Camden and Philadelphia. She retired from the Violation Bureau of the City of Camden in 1979 and was previously employed with the IRS in Philadelphia. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted and loving husband Reverend Ollice Bates, Sr., 3 sons Richard, Ollice, Jr. and Ryan Bates, 2 daughters Patricia Bates and Pamela Thomas, 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. One brother Eugene Alston predeceased her. Services will be held Sat., Oct. 6, 2007 at 11 A.M. at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Grieves Parkway Salem NJ, with Pastor Guy Campbell, Pastor of Evergreen Baptist Church, officiating. Int. will be in the Harliegh Cemetery, Camden, NJ. Friends may call at the church Friday evening from 6-8 P.M. and Sat. 9-11 A.M.
